Misplaced Charity

I have donated my car to charity several years ago. I was in fact very happy to have found out that there was a way for me to help other people without having to dish out a lot of cash. Or any cash at all. They told me that it would be a win-win situation.

It wasn’t. It was because I got into the hype of getting rid of an old car that was just taking space. As much as I thought selling it would be better, I just didn’t have the time to go though getting the value of my car appraised and what not.

They told me that I would get a tax deduction. Unfortunately, the charity that I had chosen accepts all donations but is not really able to provide the papers that were later asked from me. I was also asked not to re-title the car. It was later that I found out there were tickets that I had to pay that weren’t mine!

I am glad greed was never my motivation. I priced my car just about right. Jail time doesn’t sound nice in any pitch.

So now I know better. I have decided to donate my six-year old car because I am going to buy a bigger one for my family. I will drive the car to the charity, which according to my research sells the cars themselves. They are able to give me a tax deduction and I feel lighter just being able to help.
