Asking a tax professional before you make a car donation seems like a lot of work just so you can get to help other people. There are just so many things that need to be done in order to ensure that you are not getting conned out of your noble thought. People have construed the idea of giving their car for charity as an easy way to lower the increasing price of their taxes.
I understand this perfectly and I have had this problem most of my adult life. If you are a single income home, this becomes an even more difficult scenario. Luckily, I have my husband and my income to help us pay the bills and even save.
We have always wanted to give money to the charity that helps rescue animals that have gone through immense torture from people. After they are put in jail, what happens to the other animals? The local pounds can only handle so many animals and they are usually just confined to cats and dogs of different breeds. I wanted to help.
My search for the right charity led me to a one that I latter joined fully. But my husband was reluctant to help out. He was thinking it was better to sell our car and give the charity a little money. But I read about it and learned that it was better to give the car directly to the charity. So I drove over and got every form and letter fixed. I knew the day I bought that car, that it was worth more than I had bought it for.

Scams
Not everyone might have the best intentions when they try to “help” other people. There had been news about car donors who overprice their cars. Thus the amount of tax deduction that they get are higher than it should really be. As a result, the government had decided a stricter scheme in doing car donations and getting deductions.
So it is best to get all the right information. You need to check three things, the legitimacy of the organization by means of whether they are spending their money in the right way and if they are qualified to accept deductible car donations. It can also help if you find out whether they would use your car as it is or if they would sell it themselves or through an agent.
There are also car donation companies who take more than their fair share, leaving very little to the actual charity.
Fraud
You need to consider the true value of your car by means of the mileage and its present form. That is where most of the cases of fraud are based on. Written appraisals are necessary for IRS deductions so you need to either ask someone to check how much your car is worth or you can get the information from a legitimate site online.
When you realize that the deduction is not something that would be considerably helpful to you, then maybe car donation might not be that beneficial to you.
Being charitable is always a good but being smart ensures your charity wins in the end.

Most people have at least one charity that they would like to help out. There is numerous ways to help, they can join in protest rallies, send letters, sign petitions and they can also participate in the fund-raising events that they hold. But what if there was a way for you to use your old car as a means to help them too?
Some charities would want to give cars to a person who needs it but can’t afford to buy one at such a high prize. Then they might be able to check whether your car, which is hopefully still running, can be used by that person.
Car donations almost all the time leads to cars being auctioned off to those who want to buy cars either online or on a much lower prize than other car dealers. The money that is gained is divided between the charity and the company that does the car donation program unless the charity has this own service.
The steps are easy; they usually ask you to fill out a form either online or in person. Then you can call their hotline and they would get your information down into their system. This information would be sent to a towing company that would contact you to ask when they can get the car. It’s usually 24 hours. Then the tow driver would hand you the tax receipt when they pick up the car. This way you can loose a baggage and do a good deed too.

I have donated my car to charity several years ago. I was in fact very happy to have found out that there was a way for me to help other people without having to dish out a lot of cash. Or any cash at all. They told me that it would be a win-win situation.
It wasn’t. It was because I got into the hype of getting rid of an old car that was just taking space. As much as I thought selling it would be better, I just didn’t have the time to go though getting the value of my car appraised and what not.
They told me that I would get a tax deduction. Unfortunately, the charity that I had chosen accepts all donations but is not really able to provide the papers that were later asked from me. I was also asked not to re-title the car. It was later that I found out there were tickets that I had to pay that weren’t mine!
I am glad greed was never my motivation. I priced my car just about right. Jail time doesn’t sound nice in any pitch.
So now I know better. I have decided to donate my six-year old car because I am going to buy a bigger one for my family. I will drive the car to the charity, which according to my research sells the cars themselves. They are able to give me a tax deduction and I feel lighter just being able to help.

The set backs from the increased tightness in the rules on car donations to get the tax deduction was largely because of the numerous fraudulent acts that were discovered by the government. This gave way to the need for more forms and documentation necessary for you to be able to continue giving to others. Being charitable suddenly had its doze of hassle.
But because most charitable institutions have found that this kind of donation has been preferred by donors, they have decided to eliminate the middle man and receive the car donations directly.
It is much better that you take the car you want to donate to the actual charity so that they wouldn’t have to pay for towing services. Again, you want to be of help, not to be a nuisance. So doing this would also allow you to ask them how things are going to be done. Nothing beats an actual conversation if they need any more information about your car.
They are the one who handle it in order to ensure that the value of the car donation don’t go to the pockets of profiteering companies that use their charities as a front. It has been observed that the charitable acts of people have been turned into a business that seems win-win for everyone but is solely for their greater benefit.
So be smart when it comes to your car donation. Simplify your life. It is better to see the people who actually uses the money get all of it.

I never thought that I would ever give anything for charity. Sure there were those Santa Clauses asking for change and the emails about children dying or disease and hunger. But my life was too full and too hectic to bother about how the world seems to be falling apart for people.
It was the night of my accident that changed my life. When I woke up from that disaster I was told that there was considerable damage on the nerves on my leg. Technically I could walk but I couldn’t put pressure on my feet.
The car was not beyond repair. Still, I didn’t want to get inside it. I hated the fact that my leg seemed to be irreparable while the car needed was a few days in the shop.
My wife decided to buy a new car. She then began looking for way to get rid of the old one. She found an option online. We could donate the car and get tax deductions for it. I didn’t care what it gave us. I just wanted the car gone.
She had signed up and had given them the car. They came for it within that week. I saw them tow the car away and I remembered that the car was still very much a part of our lives. My wife had made the right choice. By letting go a car that had caused me pain, I could go on to make more road trips on a new one.
